We travel through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
We set off through the sunflower fields of Southern Hungary, heading towards former Yugoslavia. The Croatian border is the first crossing where we had to bring out the passports, but it only takes a couple of minutes to get through.
The transition from Hungary is not very big. It’s the same rolling hills and sunflower fields. But for Snorre it still feels a bit strange to come back into this area again. And that strange feeling will only get stronger throughout the day.
Not long after we cross the river Sava – which is also the border into Bosnia-Herzegovina. Immediately, things are changing. Everyhthing is far more rural here, with horses and carts, chickens running in the street and garbage burning behind the sheds.

We make a stop in Modrica, Doboj and Tuzla on the way south. When we finally reach Sarajevo and turn into the main road towards the city centre Ulica Zmaja od Bosne, also known as Sniper Alley, Snorre is having some major flashbacks.

The first time he drove down this street was in an armored vehicle, escorted by the French anti-sniper section. Fortunately, things have changed since then. It feels really good to see smiling people out in the streets, eventhough there is still visual evidence of the war.
